Spring and Summer ’21 Info and Fall ’21 Planning

Welcome back after Spring Break. I hope everyone was able to relax, rest, and feels restored. After Spring Break we welcomed some students back to campus as our courses which were originally scheduled to be face-to-face this spring are now taking place in their originally scheduled modalities. Although UHD’s campus is not back to its pre-COVID hustle and bustle, it is wonderful to see our students back in the halls and in classrooms.

Over Spring Break we also welcomed our new president, Dr. Loren Blanchard. He has hit the ground running and has already met with our deans, our chairs, Faculty Senate, and many other campus groups. I look forward to working with Dr. Blanchard as the UHD community continues its work in serving our students, engaging with the Houston community, and planning for the Summer and Fall 2021 semesters.

This month’s newsletter provides a look at planning for the Summer 2021 semesters and you’ll also find some information about the excellent resources available to you for Fall 2021.  In the meantime, faculty and staff business travel remains on hold until at least May 31, but an announcement will be made on April 15 about decisions regarding travel after May 31. Study abroad remains on hold for the Spring and Summer 2021 semesters – stay tuned for information on Fall 2021. As COVID vaccines become more widely available, UHD administration along with the COVID Taskforce continue to evaluate and plan for how to safely and effectively reengage all constituencies on campus. Emergency Management has crafted a set of COVID-19 vaccine FAQs, a few are provided in this newsletter as well as a link to the extensive list on the website.

As we plan for Fall 2021, I encourage all faculty to consider use of the Flex Classrooms. These rooms offer a unique platform for faculty to engage with students in both the classroom and remotely. IT is offering one-on-one trainings to faculty who are interested.

I am grateful and truly appreciative for the hard work and dedication that you, our faculty and staff, continue to provide to our students and the UHD community. If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming semesters please contact me or my office (provost@uhd.edu). We are here to support you.
