Message from the Provost: Missing Our Gators

Dear Students, Faculty & Staff,

I hope this note finds everyone in good health and that you are making the best of the current Stay at Home requests issued by Harris County and the Governor. Admittedly, I have been balancing time between my home workspace and my office at UHD.

While I am delighted to return to our campus and see the familiar sights (the new Gator Wall, wildflowers in bloom near the College of Sciences & Technology Building, blue lights on the One Main Building, downtown skyline), something is certainly missing from UHD at this time … all of you.

The University is a different place without our Gators. The normally busy third floor of the One Main Building is now silent. The music and laughter that occupy the Student Activities area are nowhere to be found. And both North and South Decks are vacant, which is a shame considering the recent beautiful weather.

UHD just isn’t the same without your energy and enthusiasm. I think the video above perfectly captures the vibe (or lack thereof) on campus right now. All of you are definitely missed, and I am optimistic that we will be reunited in due time. Until then, continue to stay home, focus on your studies, and stay healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Eric Carl Link
UHD Senior Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs and Provost
